The script of the stage play "To set a trap" tells about a story of a young man who single-heartedly attempts to achieve success through his own efforts, but only to meet his fatal disillusionment and with his faith to live totally shattered. FEI Cai, the protagonist, has always been an aspiring man, yet he is repeatedly frustrated in all his endeavors by all kinds of setbacks and difficulties. Although he never surrenders and makes up his mind to fight against his fate, the slings and arrows of life still await and try to weigh him down with the heavy blows. He longs to work his way to become an excellent online novelist. In order to accomplish this, he even spares no efforts to find inspirations by sneaking into a thief gang, who self-righteously regard themselves as average employees in a company. But this intention soon bankrupts and it turns out to be impossible for him to write anything original. He then decides to be a very competent thief in the company, but unfortunately, he gets fired instead. Once an ambitious man filled with passionate dreams, FEI Cai always strives to overcome all the setbacks and difficulties, because deep inside he has a little but fervent wish that he can achieve something worthy through his own efforts. But the harsh truth is that he sinks to oblivion with nothing accomplished, utterly disheartened and disoriented.Hidden behind this ridiculous farce are many desperate and tricky choices made by individual character. Although these oppressed characters finally reap what they want in the final Carnival, it is pathetic FEI Cai who is sacrificed and actually pays the price.Interpretations of the creation "To Set the Trap" is a review and summary of the whole process of my creating of this stage play, mainly from the various aspects of subject significance, characterization, plot construction and creative approaches. At the same time it is also a record of the gains and losses, highs and lows in my creating process. Generally speaking, the interpretations of the creation process highlights how the creative techniques of detective novels and the structure of "play within a play" have been utilized; and how the two different kinds of time and space, both in fictional world and real world, contrast each other but at the mean time the time-space relationship is not only parallel but also expanding and extending into each other; and ultimately, with the aid of all these, the interpretations of creation process attempt to illustrate how the stage play manages to reveal, step by step, the sorrow and sadness hidden behind the comedy.
