Khitan and Turk both are the powerful minorities in the north of China in ancient times. The early Khitan experienced three stages of developments which are before the Emperor Taizu of the Liao founded the country. The Turk regime had The period of Turkic Khanates,separate period between East and West Turkey Khanate and Later Turkic Khanates. The early Khitan kept a close relation with Turk. When Turk mastered the northern desert and gradually over the Zhong Yuan dynasty, Khitan at this situation chose to depend on Turk. But when the situation changed, Khitan chose to surrender to the Zhong Yuan dynasty. Under such a situation, it still kept certain relation with Turk.In the long term, no matter which relationship between Khitan and Turk or Zhong Yuan dynasty this relation always benefits for the later development of Khitan. When Khitan depended on Turk, this relation helped Turk conquer the north. On the opposite, it would decline Turk’s power. After early Khitan separated from Turk and surrendered to Sui and Tang dynasty, Sui and Tang’s military power in northeast had enhanced and this ensured they dominant position when rivaled with Turk.On the opposite,Eeary Khitan depended on Turk negative influence on Tang’s Northern Borders.Tang dynasty adopt the different ruling strategy about Khitan.In addition, it in some degree forced Xi minority to surrender to Turk and at the same time benefited the foundation of Bohai regime.
