Much attention has been drawn on works of female authors who were born in 1970 s and came to a sudden rise in the last ten years of the twentieth century. The personality and literary works of Wei Hui, a “alternative writer”, had even caused heated discussion at that time. As we look back to the comments in that period, many repelled and criticized the arrogant and domineering characteristics of Wei Hui, as well as the description of body, sex and desire in her works. Nowadays, as the society develops and opens gradually, the consumer culture is now completely penetrated into people’s life, and the mass culture will not hide their attention of body and desire any longer. In the 1990 s, the individual experience in the works of Wei Hui reflected the living conditions and value pursuit of a portion of young people of that time; however, the individual experience of that small portion of people has obviously extended to the overwhelming majority now along with the development of customer culture. If we have a look into Wei Hui and her works, we can catch that the researches with critical attitude at early period had put the focus on the distance between individual experience and the mass culture, but had neglected the facticity of the individual experience, which went with the limitation of that period of time.At present, the discussion of Wei Hui has faded both in the literary field and among network media, and she also announced that the 2007 publication Gou Ba Ba would be her last novel in her life. It has been so many years after the heated discussion of Wei Hui. Under the time difference, this thesis would like to review Wei Hui and her works with four aspects — the reveal of desire under the influence of body writing and consumer culture, the description of cities and public social sites, and the description of individual experience after the consumption revelry, trying to discuss the bold and unbounded individual experience in her works and also its rationality, as well as paying attention to the living and spiritual status of people who live in modern metropolis.
