Rational Thinking On The Phenomenon Of Body Heat Under The Context Of Consumer Cultures

Since the1990s, the body has gradually become the focus of attention. Consumer society is good at attracting the public attention with a wide variety of goods. Under the rendering of mass media, the public interest has grown particularly strong."Body heat" phenomenon guide people’s lifestyles and people’s physical concepts has also experienced a change from tradition to modern. Within the overall context of visual cultures being unprecedented prosperous, the body has been one of the most common materials used by the new media to attract the public. Image-narration media provide the public with a "mirror". Living in the "Mirror City", people treat their bodies more and more strictly. Bodies in the context of consumption are no longer limited to the level of their use value, but are increasingly focused on the commercialization.This dissertation, on the basis of the theories of consumerism culture and body culture, tries to study the causes and overt characteristics of such a protruding body phenomenon, and also thoroughly discusses the problem that what a realistic situation the body phenomenon is facing in the contemporary consumer society. The salience of Body heat phenomenon represents the awakening of self-consciousness and the respect for bodies. Because of the liberation of bodies, people begin to pay close attention to their own bodies and use various technical means to care and maintenance them. According to different preferences, people can arbitrarily make plans for their own bodies to make them more healthy and beautiful. Image-narration media show body boldly, satisfying people with the visual enjoyment and pleasurable experiences. When the liberation of bodies actually becomes an invisible convention, the symbolic value of the body consumption is far more than its use value. As individuals in the consumer society, for the body hot phenomenon, people should keep a cool head and avoid the temptation of commercial interests. Therefore, what we should think more about is how to hold ourselves and keep the body in quite a natural state.
