| Sanmao (Echo Chan), a legendary female author from Taiwan, wrote the lyrics of The Olive tree, A Daylight Avenue, Seven o’clock, Dream Field and etc, which are masterpieces in Modern Folk Song Movement and have influenced the popular music in Taiwan and even the whole Chinese world. Till now, there are few specialized research in academic field towards the relationship between Sanmao and the Modern Folk Song Movement in Taiwan. And this thesis aims to probe how Sanmao’s lyrics turned into classical modern folk songs, what formed the aesthetic characteristics of those lyrics, and where did the aesthetic performance come from.The Introduction introduces Sanmao’s lyrics and the development of the Modern Folk Song Movement in Taiwan to put forward the reason and the aim of this thesis. Chapter 1, viewing from the aspect of the Academia omission towards Modern Folk Song Movement, points out the substance that Sanmao’s lyrics are modern folk songs. Chapter 2, basing on the former view, analyzes the special aesthetic characteristics of Sanmao’s lyrics in three details. Firstly, set off from stylistic awareness of lyric to search the combination form of poem and music in Sanmao’s lyrics. Secondly, observe form the Intertextuality of Sanmao’s lyrics to make out the relationship between lyrics and prose written by Sanmao. Finally, analyze the perfect echo form of lyrics, music and singing through the soundtrack and singing features. Chapter 3 will discuss the writing intention of Sanmao’s lyrics, that is, it caused by her active participation in the Modern Folk Song Movement. Further more, this transformation may be observed as her strive to break through the bottleneck in writing. Lyrics unique aesthetic characteristics are as popular writer writing pursuit. The Conclusion part highlighted that the lyrics created by Sanmao are unique treasure in the Modern Folk Song Movement as well as a feasible attempt by combine the elite culture with popular culture. |
