"Nature and emotion " is a core topic of traditional Chinese philosophy; particularly the discussion of mind-nature theory has become a common paradigm of Chinese philosophy. Influenced by Buddhism and Confucianism mind theory, Sui and Tang Taoist thinkers carried out the construction of mind-nature philosophy of Taoism. On the basis of inheriting and developing the traditional concept of human nature and emotion, they explore a lot deeper on it and make it connection point of the mind-nature theory and religious practice. The text is divided into three parts, the first part is the introduction, an overview of the academic study on the theory of Taoist nature and emotion. The second part is the central part of the text, divided into three chapters unfold:Chapter 1," the origin and development of Taoist thought of human nature and emotion before Sui Dynasties." This chapter reviews the Taoist thought of human nature and emotion including the thought of Lao-tzu and Chuang-tzu, Taoist school of Huang-Lao, metaphysics in Wei and Jin Dynasties and teachings after the birth of Taoism.Chapter2, "the basic idea of taoist thought of human nature and emotion in Sui and Tang Dynasties " This chapter analyzes the concept of "nature"-. " emotion " and the relationship between them, discusses the basic content of Taoist thought of human nature and emotion in Taoist philosophy, especially theory of Chongxuan in the Sui and Tang Dynasties,Chapter 3," Taoist thought of human nature and emotion and life practice." Different from Confucianism and Buddhism, Taoist thought of human nature and emotion in Sui and Tang Dynasties had a profound impact to the Taoist life practice. With the thought of that nature is static and emotion is active, as well nature is good and emotion is evil, the primary means of life practice is keeping mind quiet and empty and eliminating the emotion and desire. Besides, it also shows some emotional color in the doctrine. The conclusion that Taoist thinkers in Sui and Tang Dynasties advocate nature and depress emotion, so the practice is to raise nature and suppress feelings. As the connection point of the mind-nature theory and religious practice, theory of human nature and emotion in Sui and Tang Dynasties affects the way of Taoist practice for future generations and the development of Chinese philosophy.
