It is more than 20 years since independent documentary appeared in China,and during these years,the speed of development is pretty amazing,from the preliminary stage to the increasingly mature,as an important part of independent film,the independent documentary offered us some different angles while we observe our country’s society.The object of this research is Chinese independent documentary,analyzing it in different aspects,including documentary style,the vision of producing,the conscious of the producer and so on.In the paper,the concept of the independent documentary has been settled first,made a clear vision between independent film and independent documentary,and then distinguish the concept of independent documentary and the organized documentary,discussed the relation between them.Take the time as clues,this paper analyzed the whole periods of Chinese independent documentary.Take the early period as naturalism time,.And also analyzed their features on themes and producers.In the middle age,take this period as a combination of direct cinema and Cinéma vérité.And also analyzed to prove it.In the prosperity period,the independent producers have a tendency to make the documentary becoming more narrative,thus narrative expression turned into a major style in the producing of independent documentary.some producers’ independent documentaries have been analyzed to prove this judgment.Bumming in Beijing,which produced by Wu Wenguang in 1990,and for truly meaning,is the very first independent documentary in China,from its birth to now the present time,the appearance of independent documentary in China has been continued only just 25 years,however,its speed is pretty high,we can for sure,the prospect of Chinese independent documentary is quite extensive.
