Dream Description And The Narrative Function In Sanyan And Erpai

There are eight-two dream stories in Sanyan and Erpai, which is two fifths of the total. It is gigantic and multitudinous. I find dream description as the starting point of the problem-solving in my thesis. Through text scrutinizing, I analyses dream description’s difference on contents and artistic skills in Sanyan and Erpai, in order to sum up literature ideology and narrative function that is implicit in created ideas of Feng Menglong and Ling Mengchu.My thesis mainly contains three parts. In introduction,it first sums up Sanyan and Erpai’s research results. Then my thesis puts forward research contents and research methods. At last, it discuss dream description’s feature of Sou Shenji and the Tang Legend which are called classical fiction between Wei-Jin dynasty and Tang dynasty. Besides that, I also discuss classical fictions’ artistic influence on Sanyan and Erpai.In the first chapter, according to dream contents in Sanyan and Erpai, my thesis divides dream into five types: dream of fame, dream of case, dream of marriage, dream of fairyland and hell and deformation of dream. Based on analyzing contents of dream, my thesis discusses relations between dream and practice divination, riddles, code words, gods, souls and so on.In the second chapter, through comparing Sanyan and Erpai on dream description, my thesis elaborates on dream description difference in contents and form between Sanyan and Erpai, thus concluding creating ideas from works.In the three chapter, in narrative visual angle, narrative time, narrative space and narrative rhythm aspects, my thesis discuss artistic function of dream description, thus summing up the values of description dream.
