A Study Of Bai Duan Jin

Bai Duan Jin is a famous book which was compiled by a literatus of Southern Song Dynasty Fang Yisun. The whole book is divided by the standard of " Wen Ge ", including 120 passages written by 26 scholars. Bai Duan Jin was used as a reference book of imperial examinations at that time because its content intends to direct how to write imperial examination essays good. Bai Duan Jin has two distinctive characters,compared with other similar books of Southern Song Dynasty: Firstly, it always chooses part of the most famous essays which were written in the imperial examinations, but not the whole ones; Secondly, it considers " Wen Ge " as its central point and makes theory first. In addition, it also has its own comments, but mostly, these ones are not the author’s own viewpoints. As a result, it’s safe to say that without the constraint of " Wen Ge ", it is difficult to find out new content.Until now, the materials which could be used to do deep research on Bai Duan Jin are very few. This thesis intends to research this book from the following 5 parts:The first part will introduce Bai Duan Jin from these four aspects:the edition background, the lifetime of Fang Yisun, the spread of Bai Duan Jin and its edition characters. The purpose is to present Bai Duan Jin from the background and basic characteristics.The second, third and fourth parts, closely with the test, intend to analyze the following aspects:the content, " Wen Ge " and the character of comments in order to figure out some significant problems of Bai Duan Jin. This is the most important part of this thesis.The fifth part is committed to connect Bai Duan Jin and other relevant books of Southern Song Dynasty, which plans to compare Bai Duan Jin with the books like Gu Wen Guan Jian, Chong Gu Wen Jue, Wen Zhang Gui Fan and so on in order to highlight concent features and research value of Bai Duan Jin.
