Benefiting from the economic globalization, a growing number of technology companies began to promote their products in China; in the meantime, as China’s economy advances remarkably and people’s purchasing power improves, Chinese are also paying greater attention to foreign technology products. All of these create a favorable condition for the development of technical English interpretation in China. Under such circumstances, studies on technical English Interpretation can broaden previous researches on the one hand and satisfy the need of the development of the world on the other. The author of the thesis takes the simultaneous interpretation from Chinese to English of 2014 WWDC as the corpus, the Relevance Theory as the theoretical guidance and the translation variation as the strategy, trying to analyze the feasibility of applying translation variation from the perspective of Relevance Theory and the specific application of translation variation in the process of technical interpretation. In Chapter Four "Case Study", the author first analyzes the interpreting difficulties, and then takes three translation variation strategies, which are addition, omission and alteration as the main translation strategies. After taking the characteristics of technological products launch into consideration, the author finally refines the above three main strategies into eleven small ones.Through the theory research and corpus analysis, conclusions can be drawn as follows:First, it is workable to apply variation to translation from the perspective of Relevance Theory. Applying translation variation in technical interpreting can make up the context for the audience, amplify the effect of context and achieve the optimal relevance between the lecturer and the audience; second, technical interpretation is an audience-oriented activity and the audience’s better understanding is its final aim, so only using traditional complete translation is not proper during the interpreting process. Due to the characteristics of technical interpretation and the differences in audience’s background knowledge, the interpreter has to do some additions, omissions, amplifications and even changes on the source language to make it more understandable for target language users; third, translation variation can not only be applied to written translation, but can also be used in interpretation. Traditional translating methods for technical interpretation can not meet the expectation of the audience sometimes, so using translation variation will be more suitable.
