The time of Wei-Jin period is active in academic ideology. During this time, the interaction of ideas is the main characteristics in academic field. Buddhism, which comes from India, became the bone of contention and tried to blending with Confucianism and Daoism. The mixing of those three schools is the new feature in Wei-Jin period. Hui Yuan, who lived during Dong Jin period, played an important role in academic fields. He summarized the debate issues of those three schools and proposed the same origin of those three schools, which have a significant role in the latter development of Buddhism.My dissertation contain following chapters:Introduction:This part illustrates that in the free ideological atmosphere, many problems left in the process of mixing Chinese three schools, and under this social background, Hui Yuan tried to guard Buddhism while reconcile the contradictions among them. This is also the origin of my dissertation. After that, I try to summarize the research status on Hui Yuan, the research method I will take and the significance of my dissertation.In the first chapter, I try to analyze the cause of Hui Yuan’s ideology. By analyze the confliction and mixing of Chinese three schools, the relationship among those three schools before Hui Yuan and books he written, I try to give a brief introduction on the cause of his ideology.Chapter Two:Hui Yuan’s ideology on Chinese three schools. In this chapter, I will analyze how Hui Yuan combined Buddhism with Confucianism and Daoism, as well as summarize the theory of materialization without demise, the theory of retribution, Buddhists may not respect the distinguished person, and Buddhists can be half-naked in Chinese three schools.Chapter Three:The characteristics and significance of Hui Yuan’s ideology on Chinese three schools. This chapter summarize the characteristics of Hui Yuan’s ideology, its limitation and influence to the future.Epilogue:This chapter summarizes the significance of Hui Yuan’s ideology to Chinese Philosophy and Buddhism.
