Literature Studies Of <Shitong>

This article mainly discusses literary view in the well-known masterpiece Shitong edited by Historian Liu Zhiji in Tang Dynasty. It makes some research with discursive subject like narrative technique and narrative concept in Shitong, and literature and history view of Liu Zhiji.First, briefly introduce Liu Zhiji’s life experience as a Historian in literature prosperous decade. The writing style of Tang Dynasty also impacts his literature and history view very deeply. The brief introduction of Shitong is better for discourse in the later part.Second, take examples to discuss Liu Zhiji’s four kinds of narrative techniques in Shitong: flashforward, echoing, inflexion and cross-reference. Do some research on strengths and weaknesses of these four narrative techniques in Liu Zhiji’s view. He is better in the acknowledgment of narrative techniques, but not good at understanding of their influence and purpose.Third, Liu Zhiji discusses the thought of historical narrative from historian point of view. His perspective has a great value and meaning on narrative creating. Besides these narrative concepts, such as memoir, neat, truth, argument and simulation,this article also discusses their advantages which are useful for creative writing.The end, discuss the similar and different development of literature and history. Liu Zhiji also talked about this appearance. Due to the influence on literature development of Shitong, literature and history can borrow ideas from each other and progress together under different situations.
