"Black humor" is the most prevalent genre of literature in the 1960 s and early 70 s in the United States, which influence the whole world. It is a bizarre and pathological sense of humor, with depressed buffoonery and bitter jokes when facing the gallows bullying. Joseph Heller(Joseph Heller, 1923-2000) is a famous novelist for black humor in 20 th century and many of his works being the classical ones. The Catch-22, as the representative of black humor novels, combines absurd with serious world and fiction with reality in a cold and cynical humor to see the world, expressing dissatisfaction and protest towards the real world, which gives the reader a wry smile in distress, reflection from shock. The black humor novels with their unique glamour attracted tons of readers, so artistic exploration of them is beneficial to our deeper pursuit of the artistic essence. In the perspective of literary narrative, an extraordinary work in art aesthetic depends largely on the interaction between reality and fiction.This article adopts the relevant narrative theories, in the perspective of literary narration, analyze The Catch-22 including the absurdity of this world, and external real world out of this text. Combined with the author’s life experience and the influence of the outside world, this novel explores the interaction between reality and fiction in the literature world. In combination with relevant theory, this text will analyze the aesthetic traits shown in the artistic imagination and fiction and explore the special charm of black humor novels.
