A Research Of The Chinese Literature History From The Perspective Of European And American Sinologists

The study of history of Chinese literature is in the context of the confluence of Chinese and western since the date of birth. In recent decades, in addition to the introduction and study of western theories, the study of history of Chinese literature of European and American sinologists is increasingly being paid great importance by domestic scholars. The study of history of Chinese literature plays an enormous role in the construction of literature classic cultural heritage and the shaping of national spirits, so it’s more worthy of our system research. Compared with the domestic research, the perspectives, methods which European and American sinologists use are different from the domestic scholars in the study of history of Chinese literature. As the latest Chinese literature published in the western world, the Cambridge history of Chinese literature made a refreshing description of the history of Chinese literature compared to the domestic scholars. Taking the Cambridge history of Chinese literature as an example, the thesis conducts a systematic research on the history of Chinese literature written by European and American sinologists, it’s hoped to reflect on the shortages of domestic researches on the history of Chinese literature.The thesis contains three chapters, counting in the introduction, there are four parts totally. The specific contents are as follows:Chapter one firstly combs the history of Chinese literary works written by European and American sinologists in a chronological order, and it also summarizes the characteristics of each stage. Then it selects the three most representative works to analyze the differences between the European and American researches and domestic researches from the three perspectives of based on the western context, language analysis as well as the cultural perspective and the interdisciplinary research method. It’s expected to deepen the understanding of the writing of European and American sinologists’ Chinese literary history.Chapter two unfolds a systematic research of "the Cambridge history of Chinese literature". The Cambridge edition is placed under the double contexts of both the western postmodern context for rewriting the literary history and intercultural communication to explore the theoretical background and cultural context for the Cambridge edition. Then this part explores the idea for compiling the Cambridge version from the two aspects of "history literary cultural" and "history within history". The part also further expands the discussion under the concept of "history literary cultural" from the book’s five most distinguished perspectives:literary historical division, classicizing and decanonization, refactoring female literature, material culture and its influence as well as literary reception. Finally, it criticizes the Cambridge version from its narrative style and the narrative principle of "story" of literary history.Chapter three makes reflection on domestic and European and American sinology’s researches on the history of Chinese literature. It firstly reflects on the domestic Chinese literature writing and then reflects on its limitations. Then, reflection is made on researches for Chinese literature by European and American sinologists and the "deficiency symptoms" which are hard to get rid of are also pointed out. Finally, due methods on researching the history of Chinese literature by European and American sinologists are discussed and, the kinds of academic vision that scholars should have to integrate Chinese and western academy to study the Chinese literary history under the context of today’s globalization are also discussed, and on the basis of which, it makes pluralistic interpretation for the history of Chinese literature.The Conclusion part points out that although their respective cultural context and academic tradition are different, European and American sinologists and domestic scholars are interpretations of the history of Chinese literature, on the basis of the full absorption characteristics of their research results, they will make multiple explanations and push forward the development of the history of Chinese literature.
