The Study Of The Relationship Of Attentional Orienting Mode And Attention Selection Mode

People have to select specific information from complex visual scene to accept, deal with and process every time, but the useful information is often presented among many irrelevant distractors. When extracting relevant information from a complex visual environment, attentional guidance is often needed as an effective mechanism to optimize target selection while ignoring the distractors. There most important features of attention are selection, resource-limited and effort-needed. The first feature of attention is the essential question of present study of attention.The present thesis is how the system of selection of attention works. Based on the literature review of attentional research of recent 30 years, we state that the relationship of attentional orienting mode and attention selection mode is complicated. Through literature review found in previous research, we can roughly divided it into two stages, one is from 1980 to 1994, two from 1994 to the present. Since 1980, Posner proposed a spatial cueing paradigm, many researches focused on the attentional orienting model and based on the relation of space or position of attention. In 1994, Egly et al proposed dual rectangular paradigm, the researchers found that attention can not only choose the space position, also can choose the object. Affected by this, based on the study of attention or dimensions also began. However, there exist a lot of disputes in a lot of studies. Controversy has centred on, different attentional orienting mode, pay attention to the selection of spatial location or object. In this paper, through the study found, attention before the directional and attention began to focus of attention of the different states, is an important factor affecting the selective attention. The introduction of the concept of focus of attention, can study effectively explain most of the conflicts and disputes.In this paper, through positive and negative verification method, four behavior studies are discussed in detail, when the state of the focus of attention is under control, to study the relation between the attentional orienting mode and attention selection mode. Among them, try to recover the double rectangular paradigm, to obtain baseline data, found that when the attention endogenously orients, attention selects the space or position; when the attention exogenously orients, attention selects the object; when we simultaneously present endogenous and exogenous cues, attention select both position object. Study two by auditory cues and guide language added to the focus of attention control, found that in the endogenous attention orientation mode, control the attention dispersedly distributed in the peripheral position, the attention of both the select special position can also select object. Study three which is in the exogenous attentional orienting, controlling of attention focus on the central position, studies on the attention selection mode. Study three found that, when the exogenous orienting attention, and attention is focused on the central position, attention selects only the spatial position. Study four found that, when using the variabled paradigm of double rectangular -- ribbon paradigm, the results are consistent with the results of study two and Study three. The four studies fully proved that the attention selection mode is influenced not only by the attentional orienting mode, but also influenced by the focus of attention.
