Social sensitivity refers to the sensitivity to others’ views, and evaluations of one’s abilities and behaviors, emphasis on general tendency to be vigilant to social evaluations, which is a frontier concept of children’s social development. At present, some studies carried out preliminary exploration, and more results showed that social sensitivity had negative effects on some adaptive abilities.Emotional adjustment was an important part of children’s psychological adjustment, however, the relation between them has not been systematically discussed. In addition, according to the information processing model and emotional regulation model, attentional bias may further explain the relation between social sensitivity and emotional adjustment. Therefore, this study is divided into four parts to explore the attentional bias of individuals with different levels of social sensitivity to social social stimuli, and try to establish an mediation model to explore the mediating role of attentional bias between social sensitivity and emotional adjustment.A total of 674 senior high school students were recruited in the study 1.The relation between social sensitivity and different indicators of emotional adjustment was measured by questionnaire. The results showed that when controlling gender and whether the only-children or not, social sensitivity significantly predicted loneliness, social anxiety and depression positively, and negatively predicted life satisfaction and general self-perception.In study 2,60 students with social sensitivity scores in the top 27% and the bottom27% were selected and named as the high social sensitivity group and low social sensitivity group. The dot-probe paradigm was adopted using social and non-social words/pictures as stimulating materials, and the duration of the stimuli was 500ms/1000 ms.The results showed that when the stimulus were pictures presented for a long time, the attentional bias index and orienting index in the high social sensitivity group was significantly higher than that in the low social sensitivity group. In study 3,other 160 students with social sensitivity scores in the top 27% and the bottom 27% were selected and named as high social sensitivity group and low social sensitivity group. The dot-probe paradigm was adopted using different valence social words/pictures as stimulating materials, and the duration of the stimuli was 500ms/1000 ms.The results showed that when the stimuli were negative words and the presentation time was short, the attentional bias index, orienting index and difficulty in disengagement index in the high social sensitivity group were significantly higher than those in the low social sensitivity group; When the stimuli were negative words and the presentation time is long, the attentional orienting index of the high social sensitivity group were significantly higher than that of the low social sensitivity group. When the stimuli were negative pictures, regardless of the length of the presentation time, the attentional bias index and difficulty in disengagement index of the high social sensitivity group were significantly higher than those of the low social sensitivity group.Study 4 mainly explored the mediating role of attention bias to social stimuli between social sensitivity and emotional adjustment.A total of 431 subjects were recruited to complete dot-probe experiment and establish the mediating model. The results showed that the attentional orientation of negative words with long presentation time played a partial mediating role between social sensitivity and depression, life satisfaction. In addition, difficulty in disengagement to negative pictures with long presentation time played a complete mediating role between social sensitivity and loneliness. In general, the results of this study show that individuals with high social sensitivity tend to pay attention to social stimuli, especially those with negative meanings, and this information processing feature further leads to negative emotional adjustment. The results are helpful to understand how social sensitivity affects the adaptive function. This is also significant for senior high school students’ mental health and promoting them earlier integrate into social activities.Furthermore, this study can provide educational practice and intervention reference for educators how to guide students’ emotional adjustment. |
