The International Olympic Committee Official Film is a type of film recoding contents and details of the Olympic Games, specially authorized by IOC. The original motivation of its birth was to record real images of modern Olympic Games. Due to its specific goal, the pattern of International Olympic Committee Official is defined as documentary. Thus, it is also known as Olympic Official Documentary. Each session of the Olympic games only produces one official film, which is archived in the Olympic Museum in Lausanne Switzerland as the authoritative images of the Olympic Games Committed by IOC. Since 1912 when the first Olympic Committee Official Film was issued in Stockholm Olympic Games,23 Olympic Committee Official Films have been produced.This dissertation is going to discuss Olympic Committee Official Film though three aspects. The first chapter discusses its development process. It is going to track IOCOFs’tradition and rules formations, analyzing core factors that promote its development. So that it would be expected to build up clear cognition of IOCOF. The second Chapter discusses characteristics and styles of IOCOFs. It is going to argue different aesthetic tendencies of IOCOFs, analyzing different patterns of structure, narrative and audio-visual in different eras. So that it would be expected to get general comprehension on the creation style of IOCOF. The third Chapter discusses the relationship between IOCOFs and the contexts of era. It is going to investigate the reaction of IOCOFs, which treated as historical references, to political context and women. So that it would be expected to exploit the referencing value of IOCOFs.The first purpose of this dissertation is to offset the flaw that IOCOFs have not been appreciated as an integral system by academics around the world over a century. And the second purpose is to clarify the definition of "official film", so that it is to expected more understanding and recognition.
