Studies On <Spring Dawn In Han Palace>by Qiu Ying

Taken the <Spring Dawn in Han Palace> in Taipei Palace Museum by Qiu Ying as an example, this paper is about to research the artistic features and reveal the artistic value of Ladies’ painting by Qiu, objectively analyze how the relationship between different painters and collectors influence the forming of his artistic style.According to historical records, there are 7 volumes based on the topic of “Spring Dawn in Han Palace”. The first one was drawn by Qiu Ying, which displays in Taipei Palace Museum now. Then was the anonymous volume from Ming Dynasty, which now sits in American Cleveland Museum of Art. During the Qing Dynasty, there were 5volumes about the topic of “Spring Dawn in Han Palace”: < A Painting after Qiu Ying’s Spring Dawn in Han Palace > drawn by Leng Mei in the period of Emperor Kang xi,another 4 volumes were drawn by Qian Long Painting Institute in the year of 3, 6, 13, 33 during the period of Emperor Qian Long.Based on the <Spring Dawn in Han Palace> by Qiu Ying, this paper analyzes the resource of its topic and style, the conclusion is that the topic originated from the figure painting about palace ladies and prevailed among mid- and late Ming dynasty. Historical records show that Qiu Ying once lived among collectors and wealthy merchants for a long time, this not only handled his livelihood who working as a painter, but also enabled him an easy approach to ancient books and excellent pictures for his learning and imitating.Considering the influence to his painting style by collectors and wealthy merchants,this paper combines Qiu Ying’s painting experience with social circles to discuss the different technique of expression and creative style among several <Spring Dawn in Han Palace>, and thereby to present the special artistic value of <Spring Dawn in Han Palace>by Qiu Ying.
