Gender Role stereotype is a kind of assumption or belief which view the role of men and women in the form of rigidity, simplified and generalized, it carries on the induction and summary of men and women’s personality traits and behavioral characteristics and so on. Gender role stereotype will directly influence the career choice, attribution, behavior and consciousness of both sexes. Learning is the main task of the elementary school children and the content of the study is from the teaching material of which the language and social teaching material reflects the ethnic characteristics of development and the social division of labor characteristics. Due to adopt different teaching material on both sides of the Taiwan straits, their education mode is also differ. This study will compares and analyses the differences on gender role stereotypes presented in the textbooks across the Taiwan straits so as to provide advice on the constant repair of teaching materials on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.This study compared the presentation and difference on gender role stereotype on mainstream elementary school Chinese, social teaching materials on both sides of the Taiwan straits through the way of text analysis. And on this basis combined the classical questionnaire and theory of gender role stereotypes to revise the questionnaire of primary school children’s gender role stereotypes to analysis the present situation of the mainland elementary school children’s gender role stereotypes and how different demographic variables and elementary gender roles influence gender role stereotypes. In the end put forward feasible suggestions for the revision of the elementary school language and social teaching materials.This research mainly adopted ways of text analysis and questionnaire survey, statistical analysis found that:(1)In the text level of the elementary school teaching material, gender role stereotypes were presented significantly on the dimensions of character frequency, character activities and image quality on both sides of the Taiwan straits in the language teaching material, the stereotypes in mainland textbooks were more obvious than Taiwan.Gender role stereotypes were presented significantly on the dimension of character frequency in the social material on both sides of the Taiwan straits, mainland was also significant on character activities and image quality.(2) In the illustration level of the elementary school teaching material, gender role stereotypes were presented significantly on the dimensions of character frequency and character activities on both sides of the Taiwan straits in the language teaching material.Gender role stereotypes were presented significantly on the dimension of character frequency in the social material on both sides of the Taiwan straits, on character activities dimension textbooks in Taiwan was also significant.(3)In the language level of the elementary school teaching material, gender role stereotypes were presented significantly on the dimensions of exclusive language and language accurate description on both sides of the Taiwan straits in the language teaching material, no significant difference was on both sides of the Taiwan straits. Gender role stereotypes were presented significantly on the dimension of exclusive language in the social material on both sides of the Taiwan straits, Mainland was also significant on the dimension of language accurate description.(4)In the layout level of the elementary school teaching material, gender role stereotypes were presented significantly on the dimension of theme order on mainland in the language teaching material and all dimensions in Taiwan were not obvious. Gender role stereotypes were presented significantly on the dimension of theme order in the social material on mainland and all dimensions in Taiwan were not obvious.(5) On the dimension of the textbook writer proportion,the gender role stereotypes the elementary school teaching material presented had significant differences on both sides of the Taiwan straits, mainland was significantly higher than Taiwan. The main primary forecast dimension of the gender role stereotypes in the textbooks were primary words, language accurate description, character frequency presented in the text level and family activities presented in the text level.(6)The revised version of the “Questionnaire of Primary School Children’s Gender Role Stereotypes”was divided into seven dimensions, 43 items, the homogeneity reliability and the half-split reliability of the total table and the sub-scales were all above on 0.8, the reliability was good, and the confirmatory factor analysis showed that the scale had good validity, so the scale had effectiveness.(7)The gender role stereotypes of the elementary school children were in the middle and lower levels.(8) The gender role stereotypes of the elementary school children existed significant difference on different demographic variables.(9) The gender role stereotypes of the elementary school children had interactions on the demographic variables like grade, father’s cultural degree, mother’s culture degree, family income, family type, education mode.(10)Demographic variables of gender, grade, father’s cultural degree, family income, whether or not the only child have significant predictive power on primary school children’s gender role stereotypes.
