The “Black ”and“White”Binhong Huang ’s Paiting Art

Huang Binhong’s paintings can be divided into two styles in general---- "Bai Binhong" and "Hei Binhong". "Bai Binhong" refers to his early painting style, during which he mainly studied the ancient paintings. At that time, his painting style is very introverted, not quite special. Therefore this period is also known as the "Bai Binhong era". After experiencing the hardships of life and the changes of dynasties, Huang Binhong’s painting style changed a lot--from the elegant style in early times into strong black style which is called "Hei Binhong". And this period is also known as the "Hei Binhong" era.Huang Binhong brought forth the new through the old. He provided the ink innovation. And the most important feature of Hei Binhong is the vitality of pictures which replaced the old flavor in Ming and Qing Dynasties.Huang Binhong, as a modern landscape painter, is a new milepost in Chinese painting history. Therefore, this research tends to study the culture connotation of the "black" and "white" throught his art experience and the characteristics of paintings. It is hoped that the research will do more contributions to landscape in Chinese painting history.This paper studies the layout of black and white through the methods of literature,copying. And it tries to illustrate his painting style and the its reasons of forming. Also the paper reveals the spiritual connotation and cultural heritage of his paintings through the analysis of "black" and "white".Firstly, the paper makes a brief introduction of Huang Binhong’s experience and artistic achievements. Then it discusses the impact of background, the traditional thought of paintings, traditional philosophy and life experience on his works especially the two important painting periods----black and white of Hei Binhong. Finally it introduced the contribution and influence of Huang Binhong’s art.
