1980s was a decade when multiple communication channels developed with the boom of mass popular art and literaturecomposition, and it was also the time when nationalism expanded and the discourse of class faded. The development of Nationalism has a strong connection with political communication:in Europe the prosperity of typography laid a solid foundation for nationalism, and in China it was the similar case that mass media and popular art and literature gave birth to nationalism in 1980s. The traditional publishing industry and the newly-developed modern mass media both served as the role of typography in Europe, which was a key to understanding the fostering of nationalism.Through research on Movie and TV shows, patriotic songs and comic books, it is possible to see how nationalism was developed by the boom of political communication and how the role of the party and the government changed in such communication mechanism. The party and the government found it difficult to control all the communication business without the support of market-oriented forces. Thus, the development of nationalism was not only a legitimacy strategy manipulated by the government, but a collaboration between the government and the non-governmental players. In 1980s, the propaganda bureau began to share the role of political communication subject with others, yet strongly influencing the political communication still by setting critic communication nodes.
