Study Of The Pioneer Farmers’ Survival And Development Situation In America Old Northwest(1787-1860)

Pioneer Farmers could definitely be called central figure before the Civil War in the history of America. They are the largest number of groups in the Westward Movement and they are the backbone force in American western development. They are also the best representatives of the spirit of America West. This thesis selects antebellum pioneer farmers of the Old Northwest as the research subject and put them into the historical background of the Westward Movement and the Frontier Development.Attempts to study their production and living condition to analyze some basic features of them. Evaluate their far-reaching influence on the aspects of American western agricultural development,democratic politics promoting,national character shaping and the precious frontier heritage which they left for the American civilization.This thesis includes four parts.The first part is the introduction, mainly introduces the research purpose and significance of the topic of this thesis,foreign and domestic academic research results of related content,the basic structure and the research methods of this thesis and define the concept of the Old Northwest and Pioneer Farmers.The second part is the first chapter of the thesis.First of all, introduce the the source of the Old Northwest pioneer farmers and evaluate the objective environment of their survival and development.The pioneer farmers who went into the Old Northwest Frontier were mainly from the original thirteen states of the America and the northwest Europe.The reasons why they can survive and development in the wild land besides subjective efforts, objectively good natural and social environment are also very important.The third part is the second chapter.The formal inspection begins on the Old Northwest frontier farmer’s material and spiritual life and production condition.The material life is mainly investigated from the land, crops and farm tools, several aspects of their basic necessities of life.Political life is mainly investigated from the perspective of community autonomy, and their self management.The spiritual life is mainly investigated from their religion, education and community communication angle.The fourth part is the third chapter. It is a comprehensive subject to the above contents refinement and sublimation.Through the above analysis of the source,objective environment,material and spiritual life of the Old Northwest pioneer farmers,we can sum up some basic characteristics of their survival and development process and the far-reaching influence producing by the the pioneer farmers on the America western frontier development, agricultural development, democracy expansion and national character shaping.Finally, it will extend to the great spiritual and cultural heritage the pioneer farmers left when they were in the westward and exploring the experience.
