Review On David Harvey ’s Depriving Accumulation Theory

At the present time, space research has been a new area for studying on Marxism, whose exploration means a turning of theory, a kind of study turning on the theory of capitalistic production of space. David Harvey’s historical-geographical materialism is exact the latest achievement of the turning of spatial theory. During the period of exploring the methods of capitalistic accumulation, Harvey realized that the modern space issue of capitalism is the inevitable result caused by the procedure of capitalistic accumulation. Capitalism operated and developed in an obit of its internal logic. The space issue becomes increasingly obvious along with the development of capitalism, in a wide range from the adjustment of space inside factories, the regrouping activity of urban space, toward as big as the exploiting of global space. Space issue has presented itself in the procedure of capital accumulating.One of the important focused points of David Harvey’s space theory is the description and analysis on the modern mode of capital accumulation. In his book Neo-imperialism, he came up with the idea of “depriving accumulation”, which was used to analyze and criticize the nature of neo-imperialism. The concept of depriving accumulation is the critical presentation for modern mode of capitalistic accumulation. In his opinion, Harvey thinks that the characteristics of capitalist original accumulation described by Marx still exist in our era, even has the more powerful effect. Harvey analyzed specifically every segment in the operation of capital logic, revealed the hidden exploitation and plundering behind the global beautiful dream made up by neo-liberalism, decoded the critical function of depriving accumulation in maintaining capitalism and constructing neo-imperialism. Harvey absorbed and developed Marx’ dialectics, had a deeply insight of the thorough essence of development of capitalism. Therefore, although the depriving accumulation has been endowed an outer appearance different from original accumulation by era, it still holds a core essence in accordance with the original accumulation proposed by Marx.
