Based on the historical changes of the funeral custom of Bai, this article explain its impact on modern funeral rite. In the case of the Dongshanjiao Village in Yunlong County, Bai’s funeral rite will be investigated and described in details in three periods:preparation,funeral,mourning and sacrifice. This article focus on the neighborhood assistance in process of Bai’s funeral rite. It will elaborate neighborhood and gifts to present their composition and operation one by one.Then it will analyze the rewards and punishments, motivation and function of mechanism of neighborhood assistance in Bai’s funeral rites. At last,this article draws a conclusion that the mechanism of neighborhood assistance in Bai’s funeral rites is insidious.The mechanism of neighborhood assistance in Bai’s funeral rites lies in Bai’s practice of life,without handwritten system and discipline. The gift of Bai’s neighborhood assistance is flowing in the form of labor,material,monetary gifts and spiritual comfort. The soul of these gifts is a kind of human relationship. Its essence is flowing of human relationship.The mechanism lies in the neighborhood circle, the DJ and manager of rite guide and organize people to divide and cooperation to complete all work in the rite. In the links of “Changli”(the singing gifts aloud)d and“Tage”(dancing accompanied by singing), people’s values such as the “Xiao”(piety)and “Li”(ceremony) are passed down by generations. The mechanism praises,punishes and educates people in the insidious links of funeral rite. the mechanism is helpful in inheriting values and life experience; enhance the cohesion of the village;fix social relationship of family and the harmonious development of rural society.
