A Report On Interpreting Explosion At Boston Marathon

In 2013, the US local time on April 15 th, two explosions occurred at Boston marathon terminal line. Three people were killed, including one eight- years- old child. This was known as bombing in Boston. This paper is completed as an interpreting practice report according to the Boston bombing English news. By interpreting this news, the interpreter analyzes three skills of news interpretation, and makes an introduction to the language features of disaster news. The interpreter analyzes the interpreting process mode of abbreviations, difficult sentences and ideological words. It is summed up that high qualified interpretations need good understanding of specific background and culture in the target language country; require good choice of vocabulary and good understanding of the reporter’s mental state. Considering the big influence of this event in the world, the interpreter needs to be comprehensive in the interpretation process for full factors, so the process of this interpretation has certain difficulties.This report is divided into four parts. The first part introduces the background information of the Boston bombing, the methods, significance and features of news interpretation. The second part is interpreting practice process which describes two processes of interpreting: preparation stage before interpreting and interpreting procedure. The third part is case analysis which mainly analyzes three methods: expression of implied information, deletion of redundant information and elimination of words with strong ideological color. The fourth part is the conclusion in which the interpreter ponders deeply over the problems of the whole process, and sums up the experience and lessons drawn in the process of interpreting.Through this news interpretation, the interpreter has integrated the interpreting theory with practice, and improved the understanding of the language style, interpretation methods and strategies. This news interpretation offers much experience for increasing the interpretation level for the interpreter in the further work.
