Zhengwei’s music is not only a musical phenomenon but also a controversial literary problem in the study of The Book of Songs. After the appearance of Zhengwei’s music, it is gradually criticized by later generations, the criticism is mainly represented by Confucian. And the criticism of Confucianism during pre-Qin and Han Dynasties period is the foundation of later criticisms. Thus the criticism of Confucianism during pre-Qin and Han Dynasties period also become a major focus of this paper. The study of this paper can be divided into three main parts:The first part trys to make an analysis that Zhengwei’s music is not eaqual to decadent music. It’s original meaning should refer to Zheng Feng and Wei Feng in The Book of Songs. However accompanied by later generations of criticism, especially in qin and han dynasties Confucian interpretation and evaluation on Zhengwei’s music, the mutation in the theory to be equal to the existence of the decadent music. This is mainly because Zhengwei’s music showes the personality traits of different from the elegant music, it is not in conformity with the localization of the function of poem which Confucian makes, and it is unable to shoulder the social function of political indoctrination. The second part is to combine and make an analysis of the representative views on Zhengwei’s music during the period of pre-Qin and Han Dynasties. Due to the change of social environment and times, and the transformation of the Confucian thought, the ideological change subsequently affect their poetic concepts, so they make different judgments on Zhengwei’s music:The pre-qin Confucian more emphasis of poem and aesthetic standard and practical function, thus promoting gagaku demeaning to Zhengwei’s music; While han Confucian evaluation by the emphasis on the political functions of poetry. As a result, Confucian during the pre-Qin and Han Dynasties make the judgements on Zhengwei’s music because they use their standards of poetics to measure Zhengwei’s music.Third part explains that the comments of Confucian in pre-Qin and Han Dynasties period reflects Confucian poetics. The poetics of Confucian include that:the virtues of composing and poetics, advocating practical poetics, the metaphor view of poetics, and running its tender and gentle view of poetics. The Confucian of pre-Qin and Han Dynasties used these poetics to measure Zhengwei’s music. Accrording to the comments of later Confucian, they followed the tradition and the standard of the Confucian during the pre-Qin and Han Dynasties, as can be seen, the poetic concepts of Confucian during the pre-Qin and Han Dynasties had a great impact on the later study, and it limited the subjectivity of later studiers, and then the problems and phenomena which liked Zhengwei’s music even didn’t get an objective and fair evaluation in a long time.
