The long lasted confusion of Northern Sichuan in Late Ming and early QingDynasties was resulted from its complexity political and military struggle. It was notonly contains the contradiction of Ming Government and Uprising teams, but alsobetween Ming and Qing dynasties. Another, the repeatedly wrestling of Ming’sremainder and Uprising army forces to Qing, the activities of Local political forcesand the Wu Sangui anti-Qing’s war. Complex of geographical social politicalsituation brings huge damage to local society.As a strategic area during "regime change", different political forces tussled inthis place, causing chaos and destructions to the local public order, war disaster andplague bring huge population losses. In the 50 years of late Ming and early Qingdynasties, regional environment interacted with the inhabitants. At the moments ofsociety stabilization, local officials and gentry attended to social governance andrestore order. People built lots of military forts to defense and self-relief, andselected different survival strategies with individual sources. The Qing governmentfirstly stabled Northern Sichuan, this supported Qing’s further military actions.Northern Sichuan got an importance position to Sichuan as well as the Southwest inearly Qing dynasty, to be "provisional capital" for decades, also restoring order fromwar state.All war subsided, stabled Sichuan starts to absorb migrants from otherprovinces, local literati wrote historical accounts to recording historical facts, learnedlessons from social changes. This article focuses on shorter periods of unrest era,with an emphasis on political integration, complemented by social changes influencefactors of long-term, outstanding power impact on local society and regional role inthe struggle for political power, exploring the drastic social change of NorthernSichuan in late Ming and early Qing dynasties.
