Since the 1980’s, task-based teaching approach has been recognized by the linguists and foreign language teaching practitioners. It emphasizes that students should learn in doing, which offers opportunities to use the language. Its core is doing thing in a language. This idea can transfer the theories of language applying to practical teaching approaches. Meanwhile, the teaching focus in vocational school is the correspondence between the text and practical skill, which means the teaching must be relied on some applying background. Therefore, it is practical and meaningful to recommend the task-based teaching approach to English teaching in vocational school. According to the teaching contents, vocational school will provide different English for Special Purpose for different major, which are more helpful for their future career. As an important part of English learning, reading is vital to the development of students’ improving on English. With the task-based teaching approach to teach reading for special purpose, the teaching process and results can be improved. Furthermore, the demands of vocational education can be better satisfied.On the basis of researching the theories and review of the task-based teaching approach, combining with the characteristics of course criteria in vocational school, this dissertation tries to study on the theoretical base of the reading in ESP teaching with the Task-based teaching approach and implementation of the Task-based teaching approach in vocational school. An experiment is designed to testify the teaching results. Two classes are selected at random, one is experimental class, and the other is control class. By means of analyzing the scores and questionnaire, the effects of task-based teaching approach to reading in ESP in vocational school can be concluded. The results are: task-based teaching approach can not only improve the effect and score, but also the interests and motivation. This research provides the practical and theoretical evidence of the recommendation of task-based teaching approach, which is helpful to the ESP teaching in vocational school.
