Vocabulary teaching, which runs throughout the listening, speaking, reading and writing courses, plays a vital role in teaching of Chinese as a foreign language. Among various teaching methods, the explicit and implicit teaching stand out and have attracted much attention and study. Based on practical vocabulary teaching, this essay aims to search for newer and more effective teaching methods from observing and summarizing the relevant course design.On the basis of The Dynamic System and current problems of vocabulary teaching methods, the writer designs a teaching experiment which lasts 3 month in practical lessons, by which the understanding and retention of vocabulary can be checked after using the explicit and implicit teaching. The participants involved in the present study consisted of two intact classes of students from Central Normal University, totally 66 people. One class was designed as the "traditional group"(N=31), and the other as the "experiment group"(N=35). And this experiment study attempts to explore the following 4 questions:(1) Are all types of vocabulary suitable for the traditional teaching which gives priority to explicit teaching? (2) In different stages of learning, which corresponding teaching method can achieve an ideal teaching effect? (3) In order to improve the long-term memory, what kind of adjustment can be made by teachers? (4) What kind of improved and extended knowledge should better be taught when students trapped in leaning stagnation?Through the analysis and conclusion of the experiment data, this essay attempts to put forwards a totally different vocabulary teaching method and under the guidance of it, teachers can extend new teaching ways which follow the characteristics and rules of Chinese vocabulary system. Students can be leaded to building a long-term memory as well as a thorough understanding of words.
