Analysis On Astafyev From The Angle Of Ecological Criticism

Victoria Astafyev (1924-2001) is a famous essayist and novelist in former SovietUnion and Russia. He is a provincial writer and love his hometown Siberia all his life.Astafyev awaken people’s attention to the natural ecology, social ecology and spiritualecology, called for people to love nature, cherish the homeland and pursue their spiritualhome through his creation.The introduction part of this paper makes a simple introduction to ecologicalcriticism, ecological literature in Russia, creation and research status of Astafyev. Thetext is divided into three chapters. The first chapter analysis Astafyev’s deeply love for hishometown and his grief for destruction of nature; there are strong natural ecologicalconsciousness in his works. The second chapter present serious social ecology in Russia,hit a sore spot in Russian social life. Astafyev Calls upon people’s moral conscience andmakes them to face the reality. The second chapter talks about spiritual ecology inAstafyev’s works. The writer shows the Russians’ spiritual crisis and trys to seek for asolution, awaking people in a state of mental numbness with kindness and love.Astafyev always concerned on the relationship between man and nature, man andsociety, man and himself; to awaken people to the pursuit of harmony between naturalecology, social ecology and spiritual ecology.
