Xiang Zi-yin, living in the crossing era of Nan Song Dynasty and Bei Song Dynasty, known as a noble royal relative and bravery general in the fighting with the Jin Dynasty, is more famous for his great contribution to the literature history in Ci-poem. Xiang Zi-yin had lived a wealth and free-from worry life because of his royal family background, but it didn’t last long for the Jingkang incident splitting the Song Dynasty which enrolled him into the war and made him rove here and there. Xiang finally determined to live a hermit’s life, being high on the beautiful scenery, to defend for his aspiration and reputation. He is a typical figure who inherited the characters of nobility,Confucian, hermit and poet of the Song Dynasty. Xiang Zi-yin is good at writing not only Ci but also poems and essays, but it is a great pity that his poems and essays can’t be seen nowadays while just history lives us a collection of Ci called Jiu Bian Ci. This collection of Ci-poems is Xiang’s twilight years work in which he edited all his works in his life. The Jiu Bian Ci is divided into two parts called New Works in Jiangnan and Old Works in Jiangbei. It is obvious that Xiang attached great importances to his New Works in Jiangnan for he edited it in front of his Old Works in Jiangbei as the first volume of the collection. The style of Xiang’s works is greatly influenced by his different life experience and it is also an expression of his mind changes in the attitudes towards Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoist culture. Xiang’s early works are mostly linked to the descriptions of compotations Jove between youngs and frolics which are light and gentle in emotion expressions and exquisite and gorgeous in words. But his writing style has a sharp twist towards profound and forceful since the great change of the regime change, and it is indicated from the subjects he wrote, such as loyal to the Emperor, missing for the lost motherland and offer birthday congratulations. Xiang Zi-yin became broad-minded during his hermit life and it effected his writing style which started to turn to relaxing, light, and leisurely. Xiang is a great typical poet whose Jiu Bian Ci gives an all round description of his life up and downs as well as his changes in his emotions. The great attractions of his Ci works lie in the expressions of the constant varying characters, senses of times and awareness of literary form incorporating tragic emotions with broad-minded feelings, which indicated by his rich life experiences. All these characters can be felt by reading Xiang Zi-yin’s works with heart and they have been an eternal glory in the study of the changes in Song Dynasty’s varying style of Ci-poem.
