| The Big Bang Theory and Philosophy is a book about popular philosophy, which is based on a well-known American TV series The Big Bang Theory, aiming at analyzing the social scientific and philosophical knowledge contained in this TV series. This TV series has won over a great number of fans in China. But up utill now studies on this series have been focused on the natural-science and technological aspects mentioned in it, the philosophical and social scientific knowledge is still not touched upon. The Big Bang Theory and Philosophy opens a door to an unreached field in this TV series. The fresh things can always attract many potential readers, so this book became an ideal translation target for me who is also a fan of this TV series.The Big Bang Theory and Philosophy is a book about the social science and philosophical things, published by the British Blackwell Publishing Ltd in U.K. In this book the co-authors analyze the moral, scientific and linguistic problems in the TV series. During the preparation, I did a lot of consulting and learning work on the professional knowledge, and check the buzzwords time and again, and also repeatedly checked my translation to make sure last version was accurate and professional enough. During the translation, the adaptation theory was my guiding principle. Compared with the other translation theories, adaptation theory requires that the translation be faithful to the original text on four different aspects, which can be more helpful in dealing with a complex philosophical and social scientific text.In this essay, some representatively puzzling examples I met during the translation are chosen and explicated. Under the guidance of the adaptation theory, a further analysis is carried out through four dimensions, namely context, construction, dynamics and consciousness, to show how not only to make the translation as faithful and loyal as possible but also to make the final version as interesting and easy to understand as possible. |
