In late Ming Dynasty vernacular novels emerged in large numbers, among which many contained a lot of females with unusual death. These females came from various social strata, such as ladies from wellbred families, girls from ordinary families, prostitutes and even nuns. All of them had similarly beautiful appearance but tragic fates, which they rbught against actively. Their images were shaped uniquely, related with authors’ time and situation. These females also shared typed psychological characteristics.The causes for their life misfortune were helpless in pursuit of freedom for love and marriage, death of loved ones, war and desire. Their unusual death included suicide, murder, death penalty and sudden death, which were quite different. Their choice of death were directly related to the environment, scene and national psychology. Their death didn’t mean the end, after which a serial of plots were arranged for underlying reasons. |
