Hu King Eng(1865-1869) was one of the first female students who had been sent abroad for study,the pioneer of Chinese female doctors. She made great contribution to Medicl and Health Services in Fuzhou.She was a Christian woman, the first Chinese missionary of the Woman’s Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church,and spent her thirty years running the Woolstone Hospital. She also took part in social activites,led the anti-foot-binding movement in Fuzhou.She encouraged girls to study abroad and intended the international conference.She has been accepted and praised by people at.home and abroad.However,the existing reaearch on Hu King Eng is disadvantageously marred by the scarcity of primary materials,and there are few introductions about Hu King Eng.Thus,this thesis analyzes her activities,especially the learning experiences in America, and focuses on her medical activity in Woolstone Hospital and its influences on Medical and Health Services of Fuzhou.
