Along with the intensified globalization in the information technology era,people from various nations and regions enjoy more opportunities to broaden anddeepen their communication, cooperation and information sharing in modern sociallife,which are remarkably demonstrated by scientific and technological advancement.Among the multitude of diverse information exchanges, technical translation acts as abridge for scientific workers of disparate countries to discuss with andlearn from eachother. Thus it playsan increasingly crucial role in promoting internationalcommunication and improving national literacy of science and technology. Forinstance, the promotional literature, technical manuals, webpages and all ranges oftexts are being translated into other languages at a faster and faster pace.Upon translating technical text, it is impractical for a translator to possess anin-depth comprehension of professional knowledge in every field or fullyacquirerelevantexpertisewithin limited time. At this point, collecting and referencingrelative parallel textassists in tackling withthe aforesaidobstacle. This paper exploresthe applicationof parallel text ina specifictranslation project, and illustrates how tosolve such problems asconfusing words or sentences byreferring toparallel text.Parallel text not only helps translators seek appropriate expressions in order to retainfaithfulness and accuracy, but also makestarget text more vivid and preserves thewriting style of original text.As a project report, this articleprimarily involvesan analytical demonstration ofthe entire translation process, including preparation work and management of thetranslation project and other procedures. From the functionalist perspective, the authorconducts a detailed probe into requirements of the translation mission, and thenanalyzes the source text according to Nord’s translation-oriented text analysis. Basedon the theoretical foundation, the paper also introduces principal translation criteria and strategies employed in technical translation.Through intensive investigationon the application of parallel text to technicaltranslation, the author endeavors to offer certain reference and translationstrategiesforsimilar practices.
