Noir Tradition-A Study On Neo-Noir Form And Style

The Neo-Noir as a film categories, from which the concept is ambiguity and controversial when we discuss it. What is the Neo-Noir? What is the "Neo" represent? With these questions, it leads our eyes toward the classic film noir and compare it with Neo-Noir.Because in the case of film Noir produced by the unconscious, the emergence of Neo-Noir would seem more "motivation." Firstly, through the study of history, changes in social and institutional reformsto look at the new emerging environment of Neo-Noir. Then through the different periods, interpret and explain with the same text, to observe the Neo-Noir in the form of inheritance and development of film noir. Hollywood is always nostalgic and retro and it likes looking to the past, so as the Neo-Noir in particular.This nostalgia is not only reflected in the form of film noir, but also included its style. Back to the past, does not mean it stays in the past, while the Neo-Noir nostalgia, with the form and style of classic film noir in a new era, the Neo-Noir demonstrating their unique charm.The purpose of this paper is not to explain a concept or to identificate a movie, but place the Neo-Noir under a historical perspective, compare and analysis the form and style with the classic film noir. Here come to a conclusion that the core of Neo-Noir existence, that is, the noir traditional in the past. With the passage of time, more and more genre mix up with Neo-Noir, has deepened its fuzzy boundaries. When we see this kind of movie, it’s not important to distinguish whether it’s Neo-Noir or not, but identified the noir tradition from the past clearly.
