Presently, the "Tibet heat" among mass media and the accompanying "Tibet travel heat" make it unavoidable to trace such an influential cultural phenomenon. It is worth investigating that what implicit expectation and mental state are behind people’s enthusiasm for Tibet. This thesis begins with the travelling culture and the image of Tibet in mass media, proceeds to study how the media-represented Tibet culture reflects the spiritual life of contemporary Chinese. An attempt is made to picture people’s spiritual life and to investigate in-depth for its cause. The conclusion is as follows:"Tibet" is a tool of mass entertainment, a weapon of status showing-off, a symbol of identification, and a source of social belonging sense. Nevertheless, in most cases Tibet is simply an implicit "spiritual homeland" which serves to purify people’s mind polluted by modernism, as well as a haven that provides shelter for people to escape from the control of their materialistic desire.
