A Report On The Translation Of Biography Of A Chinese Economist-Wu Jinglian

This project firstly translated Biography of a Chinese Economist--Wu Jinglian written by a famous finance author Wu Xiaobo. The project explored how to better deliver the language style of the biography and composed a report on this issue mainly around the difficulties of delivering the language style.The targeted biography was based on many in-depth interviews with Wu Jinglian and featured narrativity, authenticity, historicity and literariness. After repeated reading and analysis of the biography and according to the forms of language style manifestation, the translator concluded the language style from three aspects which are poetic, colloquial and rhetorical features. Therefore how to deliver language style through those aspects is the major point the project attempts to discuss and explain.The difficulties of delivering the language style are as following:firstly how to retain the poetic sentences conforming to the overall style; secondly how to translate the colloquial sentences more genuinely within the overall style; thirdly how to manifest the rhetoric features in accordance with the overall style.Guided by the translation stylistic theory of Liu Miqing, the translator has chosen strategies of corresponding, reconstruction and decoding for translating the parts which can deliver the language style of poetic, colloquial and rhetoric features.The project concludes with the point that in order to better deliver the language style we should firstly get to know the writing features and creative motivation of the author, and then have a in-depth reading of the work to dig out the overall language style. Finally we should adopt right strategies for translating the parts which strongly display the style of the work.
