Expressions In The Translation Of Biography Of Sport Celebrity-a Report On The Translating Of Sir Alex Ferguson

This report is based on the translating of the excerpts of Sir Alex Ferguson—TheOfficial Manchester United Story of25Years at The Top, an official biographypublished by the Manchester United Club in the celebration of Sir Alex Ferguson’s25years at Old Trafford. It is about Alex Ferguson’s experience with the United fromNovember1986to2012. Since it’s a biography of a football celebrity, the book hasdistinct features of biographical texts as well as sport texts, and these features shouldbe presented in the translation.When translating the book, I encountered two main problems. One is how toreproduce the biographical language idiomatically in the translation, and the other ishow to deal with the lexical features of the source text.To solve these problems, the translator must make sure that the translationshould be equivalent to the source text, both its meaning and its style. In this project,literal translation is predominant, while free translation is used in formidable cases inorder to make the target text readable and understandable.This project is to learn more about the features of biography and relevanttranslation strategies, and to improve my competence as a translator.
