Since the reform and opening up, China’s position in the world stage hasincreased by leaps and bounds, along with the rapid development in politics, economy, culture and some other aspects. Communications between China and other countriesare becoming more and more frequent. During the period, interpreting plays a vitalrole on the occasions such as international conferences, economic forums, newsbriefings, business negotiations as well as academic discussions. Therefore, facedwith great difficulties and huge challenges, the interpreters are required to mastercomprehensive abilities. To be specific, interpreters should grasp certain abilities andskills so as to complete the arduous task. In addition to linguistic competence, thefundamental skills include pressure-bearing ability, efficient note-takingskills,material comprehension ability and excellent short-term memory. Among them,note-taking is my research interest. And I believe in this section, we can explore somemethods and shortcuts, which are not decided just by linguistic competence andconstant exercise. And thus we can make progress through some easy ways.Interpreting is a linguistic activity,in which interpreters receive the message inone language and turn it into another in the form of oral expression. In the process ofinterpreting, interpreters should in the limited time focus all his attention, make fulluse of his knowledge, and mobilize his interpreting skills in order to deliver thereceived message accurately and rapidly. However, human brain’s memory ability is limited. Though the interpreters’memory is better than average people due to their specialized training, they can notremember every point. This thesis tries to explore how the personalized consecutive notes influence theinterpretation through the comparative experiments. At the same time, we also studythe many features of interpretation notes from the necessity, the function, the processand especially the principle of interpretation notes. In order to explore the real condition in the course of note-taking, this paper willmake emphasis on empirical research in taking notes, including the accuracy of target language, fluency, grammar and also the logical consistency. Besides, we will alsoseek out the relationship between the quality of interpretation and the format of notes, notes’ numbers, language selection and symbols. In this experiment, we invite24postgraduate students who major in English interpretation. We divide the experimentinto two sections, interpretation test with common notes and interpretation withpersonalized notes. We will do the data acquisition through adopting the liverecording, analyzing the text and checking the students’ notes. This paper first gives a brief introduction about consecutive interpretation andsome features in note-taking. Then in the second part, two sets of experiment arepresented aiming to explain my opinion on how personalized notes influence theinterpreting results. Next, the analysis and inspirations derived from the experiment. After that, summary and details in designing the notes shall be concluded. Thepurpose of this thesis can be generalized as follows: to find out some easy points innote-taking, simplify the notes, make better use of the time in interpreting, make thenotes yield the greatest returns.
