In the course of second language learning, learning motivation is one of the mainfactors which influence learners. Learning motivation influences learners’ interest andenthusiasm in learning English, which is the key to successful English learning.Learning motivation is not only positive, but also can be decreased because of somefactors. In recent years, foreign researchers have studied demotivation of Englishlearning in many aspects. In China, although there are a lot of studies about learningmotivation, researches on demotivation are rare. Researches on analyzingdemotivation for English majors are even fewer. However, demotivation in Englishlearning also exists for senior English majors. Firstly, English majorswere asked to do the questionnaire to find out whether they had demotivation inEnglish learning, the degree of English learning demotivation and the main factorscausing English learning demotivation, IBM SPSS Statistics21was used fordescriptive statistics and independent samples T-test. The results demonstrated that,(1)Most English majors had demotivation in the process of English learning, and malestudents’ demotivation of English learning was much stronger than that of femalestudents.(2) Among the seven categories of demotivating factors, three factors wereparticularly prominent, which were teachers, learning environment and students.(3)In the three main factors, obvious gender differences appeared in different aspects. After the questionnaire, an interview was given to three male students and threefemale students with demotivation. The results are basically consistent with theconclusions of the questionnaire. Besides, difficulties in finding good jobs become anextra factor causing English majors’ demotivation in English learning.Based on the main findings above, some suggestions are put forward in theaspects of teachers, learning environment and English majors to reduce theirdemotivation in English learning, which provide advice and reference to otherresearchers of this field.
