On the basis of the classic mode of learning motivation which is put forward by Gardner&Lambert and the demotivation theory of Dornyei,this thesis aims to investigate the demotivation factors in English learning according to the characteristics of domestic students and teaching environment.The research participants are the college students of art majors.This thesis draws up three progressive specific questions as actual research questions.To begin with,the first step is to investigate the demotivation state in the English learning of art major students.The second step is to explore possible factors that cause demotivation among the art major students and find out the dominant ones.The third step is to offer some useful advice to reduce demotivation in the English learning of art major students according to the analysis on the demotivation state and the dominant factors.In order to answer the above questions,questionnaire among students and interview with students and their teachers will be used in this thesis.The participants are 109 art major students in Hubei University with 107 valid participants.The data collected by the questionnaire will be analyzed by SPSS software and the interview will be recorded in written words.After the interview and descriptive analysis,the principal component analysis and factor analysis will be processed on the basis of nine demotivation factors which are put forward by Dornyei.Then the interview with the teachers will be recorded in written words.Finally,a comprehensive analysis will be taken on all the data.The result shows that demotivation widely exists in art major students.Three dominant factors are found,they are(1)Learner-related factor,(2)Course-related factor,(3)Attitude towards English.Through the interview with students and teachers,the solutions to reduce demotivation are summarized.Students should look for materials related to English actively,take part in more English activities,discuss and exchange useful English learning strategies.As for teachers,they should keep up with the time,use diversified teaching methods and contents to arouse the interest of students,interact with students more frequently,and create a good environment for students’ English learning.
