A Study Of Chinese Gratitude Speech Communication

This study comes from the interpretation of the experience duringgratitude speech communication process. The core problem of solution is that:how do people meet the needs of participants in communication by usinglanguage form.There should be a prerequisite of gratitude speech communication, thatis “the behavior of benefactor meets the needs of beneficiary”. In the actualexperience of communication, expectancy always exists when the behavior ofbenefactor benefit beneficiary. In other words, when the behavior happens, thebenefactor expects some response from the beneficiary. The response couldbe appreciation or indebtedness or compensatory for the behavior. Theappreciation or indebtedness or compensatory for the behavior are the needsof the benefactor. When the benefit behavior meet the needs of beneficiary,beneficiary have to response to the behavior to maintain relationships or bepolite. Having to response is the need of the beneficiary.There is a need for beneficiary to meet the needs of both the benefactorand the beneficiary. Then beneficiary can meet the needs of participants incommunication by using language form, there comes the communicativeintention. The communicative intention is gratitude [X].The core of gratitude communication: the choice of the language formthat can activate any realization condition, it will activate all realizationconditions, and finally performs gratitude communicative intention.Benefactor(attitude/capability)/behavior and the needs of beneficiary beingmeted constitute the prerequisite of the gratitude communicative intention.Beneficiary can identifies any realization condition by a discourse form, then itwill activate all realization conditions, then it accords with implementation standard of communicative intention and finally performs gratitudecommunicative intention.The selecting of the language form in the implementation process ofcommunicative intention, is abstractly generalized the conditions whichbeneficiary needs to satisfy and conclude the realization conditions. Therealization conditions:benefactor(attitude/capability)behavior and the needs ofbeneficiary being meted.The selecting of the language form should follow the realizationapproaches of gratitude communicative intention. The way that discourseform relate to gratitude communicative intention, which can identify therealization condition of gratitude communicative intention. To meet the needsof benefactor, beneficiary have to select the most apparent approach to makebenefactor receive the response of beneficiary. The main realizationapproach: one is by using structured language element, it can identify therealization condition of request communicative intention. The other one isestablishing the connection between discourse form and the realizationcondition.The beneficiary should express the gratitude speech to make thebenefactor receive the response, more important thing is the degree ofgratitude. That means appreciation or indebtedness or compensatory shouldbe expressed by language form. How to select different language form toexpress the three degree of gratitude is the study core of this paper, andwhich possesses more reference value in Teaching Chinese as a foreignlanguage and Language Proficiency Test.
