Xiao Jun is an important writer in20th century of China, whose works havemade a significant impact. His works mainly include novels, prose,classical poetry,drama, the new historical novels, modern drama, and so on. For a long time, thereare a lot of problems on study of Xiao Jun and his works. We tent to focus on hisnovels, such as The Village of August, The May Mine, The Third Generation, andso on,but,as for his massive, valuable classical poetry, and his two briliant drama,namely Crusake against King Zhou of Shang by King Wu of Zhou,and the History ofWu and Yue, we have little attention on them. We tent to focus on the new heroism,the ethos, the consciousness of resistance in his novels, but we have little attentionon the problems and shortcomings of his novels. We have little attention on theproblem,which I name it as virtual high position of him and his works. This lead to anot scientific evaluation on his real artistic level. With the development of the times,in the new historical context, we desiderate a new evaluation and position on XiaoJun and his works, and the new evaluation and position must be scientific,reasonable and objective.Therefore, this paper’s purpose is getting a comprehensive, scientific,reasonable and objective evaluation. We don’t give it an unduely praisedeliberately, and we don’t depreciate it deliberately, either. Secondly, the purpose isto find the literary value of Xiao Jun’s classical poetry, drama and prose, which cantruly reflect his literary talent. Thirdly, for writers like Xiao Jun who is very specialand in the special period, when we analyse their novels, we must combine theirartistic level and their social effect. Moreover, we must pay attention to theshortcomings of his novels.Only then can we make a historical and justice evaluation.Fourth, Xiao Jun’s becoming famous which because the current political situation andhis virtual high position have many reasons, such as the need of the Anti Japanse War’s situation, Lu Xun’s cordial care, the CCP’s conduction and support, being inlove with Xiao Hong, his personality characteristics and life experience, and so on.The problem of some writers’ vitual high position is an important proposition inChinese literature history. The study on Xiao Jun can make us have a betterunderstanding of the problem. Xiao Jun is not a pure writer, and he became attachedto politics firmly. Therefore, when we evaluate a writer, we must start from the text,not the writer. We must start from the artistic value, not the external factors. Then,through the works, we evaluate the writer, and we take the external factors the last.In addition, when we evaluate a write, we must put the writer in the whole history ofChinese literature,even the literature of the world. Only then can we make it on theright side of history. I think that Xiao Jun is a patriotic writer, a revolutionary writer,but not an excellent novelist. His novels have had a great influence, but they alsohave many shortcomings. Xiao Jun is a very talented wirter, which mainly manifestsin his classical poetry, drama and prose. These are the essence of his works. He isan outstanding poet, dramatist and proser. We should not unduely praise Xiao Jun’sposition, but Xiao Jun’s whole life, which is revolutionary, patriotic, struggling, isworthy of our respect.
