In the literature history of the 20th centrary, Xiao Hong has a strong personality and her own style. She was bom in the period of the Revolution of 1911, which brought the dawn light to China. However, her short life went through the deep disasters of our nation. In her thirty-years' life, Xiao-Hong contributed nearly million-character works to Chinese literature history. The research on Xiao-Hong has been nearly 70 years, we find in surprise that our study and judgement for her, a writer praised as Goddess of Luo River in literature in 1930s, not only is unfair, but there exist such sharp difference and misunderstanding for the complicated background of that age.social politics and private feelings.By studying closely on the historical and cultural environment of modern China, the unique experience of her life and literature and her special feelings of writing, this essay has an investigation and study on all her works as a whole . Using methods of comparative literature and feminism critique as well as critique of society and history, this essay analyses the development of trio themes in Xiao-Hong's writings: firstly, these three themes show their separate character as they combine together ;secondly, the trio themes show a controverse over the main currency of literature of that age, at the same time they echo and supplement it. Therefore, with this rejudgement the author tries to recognize Xiao-Hong's right position in modern Chinese literature. In part of introduction, this essay looks back on the accomplishment and defection of the study of Xiao-Hong's works. Then the ahthor discusses the value and singnificance of the thought and theme in Xiao-Hong's works from three aspects. In thefirst chapter, it mainly deals with the theme------conciousness of society. This essaythinks this theme is the echo for the society------struggle of class and saving the fate ofthe nation. Xiao-Hong has the same idea as the main literatural currency of that age, her works reflects the the people's struggle for living in north-east part of China. They are under pressure of class and the cruel ruling of Japanese invaders. In Xiao-Hong's works, rhese people led a miserable life but they became awaken gradually, and later on , they determined to revolt the higer class and fight for their nation. In the second chapter, this essay recovers the second theme: feminism------the struggle of women. This essaydiscusses the suffering of females described in Xiao-Hong's writing. With the deep observation and exploration, Xiao-Hong, as a woman writer, makes a detailed and vivid discription of women's sufferings in history and society. In the great disaster burdened by the whole nation, Xiao-Hong, enacts the writing for females who have been hidden and neglected by the literature of Anti-Japanese War and class struggle. In the thirdchpter, this essay explains the third theme: conciousness of humanity-theinterpretating of life process and the efforts made for the struggle of life. In the last period of her life and writing , Xiao-Hong transfers her unique observation of life and thinking of humanity to the great and generious caring for human beings. Sheemphasizes her writing on the questions in a dilemma-the tragdy of being itself. This .kind of writing is of the most important value of the essence of literature as well as a neccesary supplement to the banishment of humanity by the main literaterature currency.
