In the late Ming dynasty, Eunuch regime led to a social turmoil. To cut down the financial expenditure, the government made a YuDie Policy, which meant the government had the only right to admit a person to become a monk. This policy had improved the economic development, but had an adverse affection on Chan Buddhism, because of the loose management of the quality of the monks. There was also a phenomenon that mimicking the Bang and He in the Chan Buddhism. To solve this problem, Hanyue advocated setting up a doctrine as a key to determine the true or false of the Chan Buddhism. In chapter one, there’s an introduction about the research of Hanyue’s Chan Buddhism, both abroad and domestic. The researches are all focusing on some points of Hanyue’s doctrine, not the whole and the scholars paid more attention on Hanyue’s dispute with Miyun, his inheritance, or his Chan Buddhism. In chapter two, according to the time, Hanyue’s lifetime, the passages talk about his doctrines and his inheriting of the two books named GaoFengYuLu and ZhiZhengZhuan..In Chapter three, the passages made a general survey of the life of Hanyue, and the content had something to do with the thought and also the personal character of Hanyue, his wish to reconstruct the Five Chan Buddhism.Chapter four talks about the dispute between Miyun and Hanyue which standed for the major controversy in the Seventeenth Century, his controversial books, his profound relationship of ideological inheritance of Master Yuanmiao and Hongfan. From his disciples we can make a conclusion of Hanyue’s main idea of the Chan Buddhism. In the last Chapter, the passages talk about the extinction of the SanFeng Chan Buddhism. The emperor Yongzheng used his kingship cancel the inheriting of SanFeng Chan Buddhism. There’re pretty different comments on this case, some were critical about Hanyue’s Chan Buddhism, and others expressed sympathy about this in that period.
