A Dream of Red Mansions and Wuthering Heights,as the Chineseand Western Classics respectively,which gain widespread attention ofcritics for a long time.whether love theme or narrative skills, two workshave won profound analysis and wonderful comments that come formscholars and experts. However, from the angle of semeiology andpsychoanalysis,the critical study are relatively less to compare them eachother. Therefore, the article tries to take a comparative analysis of the twoclassics based on the two different culture settings. We take the lovetheme as a opportunity,apply semeiology and psychoanalysis to analyzetwo works. This paper mainly includes three aspects that are respectivelynarrative mode, love paradox and super signifier of three orders. The finalpurpose is to compare the chinese and western culture in which show different cultural connotation.This paper includes three parts: introduction, text, and conclusion.The introduction mainly reviews the previous comparative studieson the two classics, and presents the viewpoint of this paper.The second part, text, contains three chapters. The first chapter,under the Chinese and western different cultural background, comparesthe different narrative styles of the two works from the perspective ofmyth participatory narration and space-time theory, namely, thedifference of gothic mystique in Wuthering Heights and mythic quality ofreincarnation in A Dream of Red Mansions, and the difference betweenspace-time view dominated by western space showed in WutheringHeights and that dominated by China time showed in A Dream of RedMansions.The second chapter, based on the viewpoint on love in TheSymposium written by Plato, explains the different western and Chineselove modes in two paradoxical aspects of loving-self and loving-others.Then from the angle of writers’ feminism Androgyny,we analyze thecauses of the paradox.Love is a kind of let the world harmonious abilitywhich includes loving-self and loving-others.The loving-self isCatherine’s love for Heathcliff and Jia Baoyu’s love for Lin Daiyu. Andthe loving-others is Catherine’s love for Edgar and Jia Baoyu’s love forXue Baochai. The third chapter, with Lacan’s theory of three orders, in differentsuper signifiers which were Wuthering Heights standing for wildernessculture and A Dream of Red Mansions of Buddha culture,to analyze thereasons of tragic love. And it compares and analyzes theory of threeorders and the ancient Chinese theory of the Five Elements.and finaly, weachieve Chinese and Western cultural exchange.The last part is conclusion of this thesis, and it elaborates presentsignificance of two works.
