Wuthering Heights,a classic of English literature,is the only novel written by Emily Bronte.Completely different from the contemporary works, this novel is full of great passion and imagination, which brings heart-shaking artistic power, and it has been researched from several different perspectives by scholars all over the world.Yang Yi is an excellent translator at home, her version Wuthering Heights was first published by Shanghai Pingming Press in 1955,after "the great Cultural Revolution",it was reprinted by Jiangsu People's Publishing House and Yilin Press in 1980 and 1990.Later,Yang Yi's version has been reprinted by many other publishing houses and has gained an enduring popularity,in 1986,she also won the only translation prize in the first Jinling Literature Prize organized by Nanjing Federation of Literary and Art Circles.Although numerous studies on this have been carried out from various aspects such as thematic significance, artistic charm, character depiction, comparative studies, writing motive of the writer and so on.,but studies from the point of translator behavior criticism are relatively rare, therefore, the author attempts to analyze Yang Yi's translation behavior from the perspective of Translator Behavior Criticism based on her version Wuthering Heights.Through analysis, the author wants to draw the following conclusions:first of all,as a linguistic being,Yang Yi pays more attention to the original text's meaning and the writer's emotional feelings while writing, otherwise,as a social being,Yang Yi also tries to attain utility in readers' comprehension beside seeking truth in original, for it not only preserves the original style, but also meets the demands of translators and readers. The thesis consists of five chapters:Chapter one goes to the general introduction of Wuthering Heights and its Chinese versions, the research background, questions, significance and the structure of the thesis.Chapter two serves as the literature review. It first presents the previous studies on Yang Yi and her version.Second, some terms in Translator Behavior Criticism are presented.Chapter three and Chapter four are the main body of the thesis. They analyze Yang Yi's translation behavior from intra-translation and extra-translation perspectives respectively together with some examples that taken from Yang's version. Then further evaluation and feasibility analysis on translation effects, motivations will be carried out in these two chapters.Chapter five is the conclusion of the thesis. The main findings and limitations of the thesis are also presented.
