Mr. Ji has said that "There are only four cultural systems in the world which have long history, vast spanning, self-contained and far-reaching. They are China, India, Greece, and the Islam. There’s only one place at which these four systems converge-Dunhuang and Xinjiang region in China." Dunhuang is the mecca of Buddhism, and it is entirely sure that Dunhuang art has been greatly influenced by Indian and Western culture. Ancient Qiuci was the east gateway through which Buddhism was introduced into China, and also the forefront at which oriental and western cultures exchange, so naturally it became the key location for Buddhist art brought from Western into China. With the pace that Buddhism art were brought to China and had a subtle influence on Mogao Grottoes, dance was with no exception.This paper will use Qiuci mural dance and Dunhuang mural dance as a starting point, in order to conclude the relationship between them through comparative analysis. That’s the main point of the paper.The paper will be divided into the following five chapters:The introduction sketches the research purposes of the paper, research background, methodology, and the current research status both at home and abroad;Chapter one details details the Qiuci mural dance which is exchanged between China and Western countries, analyzes its main performance types, styles and characteristics, moreover, describes its role on the dance culture exchanges between China and the Western countries.The second chapter analyzes the reasons of the Dunhuang mural dance formation in details, its main performance types, styles and characteristics, as well as the creation of contemporary Dunhuang dance.Chapter three is the key part of the paper. This chapter conducts a comparative analysis of Qiuci mural dance and Dunhuang mural dance, focuses on analyzing their similarities and differences, as well as mutual influences, thus obtains the close correlation between them.The last chapter sums up the current development situation of Qiuci mural dance and the Dunhuang mural dance, tentatively puts forward to use the development of Dunhuang dance as a reference, trying to study, explore, organize, and summarize the content about Qiuci mural dance. The author hopes that the Qiuci mural dance will be brought into the classroom teaching and form a system in the future, so that together with the Dunhuang mural dance, they will form a new distinct Chinese classical dance with a combination of Western and Eastern elements.
