The earliest monthly magazine focusing on Japan——Japan Studies——is frequently published by New era monthly club in Shanghai from January1930to December1931, taking "to know of Japan, know of the real Japan" as its aim at the beginning, comprehensively introducing the Japanese politics, economy, history and culture, social and diplomatic aspects and so on. As the occurrence of Wan Baoshan anti-Chinese attacks and "the September18th Incident", the relations between China and Japan were increasingly intense, The content of published articles in Japan Studies began to change to connect with the times closely. And in order to reveal the Japanese conspiracy and crime of aggression against China better, special issues were opened up by monthly magazine to explain concrete conditions about the relations between China and Japan in detail.This paper takes the monthly magazine——Japan Studies as basic material not only because of a large amount of relevant historical materials and pictures preserved by Japan Studies, but also because the content of these articles themselves were witnessing the understanding of Chinese people on China-Japan relations at that time. This paper aims to regard the articles about different conditions of Japan which published by the monthly magazine as research angle, and tries to provide a reference for us to understand the understanding of Japan of the people of the Republic of China around "the September18th Incidenf "by explaining the content of its articles.This paper thinks Japan Studies is not introduce the conditions of Japan simply, its understanding of Japan has a definite depth and it deepen the quality of the magazines which focusing on Japan. And it explains the change of the magazines which focusing an Japan during the Republic of China in the other hand, from collecting and arranging the relevant materials and information to making comments on knew materials. Japan Studies promotes the development of the study of Japan and laid a solid foundation for the later understanding of Japan overall and deeply.
